Climbing Gym Supervisor
Nationally Accredited Course

Course Objectives

Australian Climbing Consultants, staff trainingThe Climbimg Gym Supervisors course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to manage a climbing facility, using the safest, most efficient procedures.

Training covers:

  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legistation and Australian Standards. In relation to working at height.
  • Hazard identification
  • Briefings
  • Belay systems
  • Climbing safety calls
  • Selecting and checking equipment
  • Route setting
  • Ascending/descending techniques to aid in route setting
  • Rescue procedures

Duration: Two (2) days nominal (this will vary depending on the context of training)

Enrolment Requirements: Students must be at least 15 years of age. They must be able to speak and understand English, and be fit and healthy for activities involving working at height.

Pre-Course Study: Students are required to complete self study material before starting the course.

Equipment: We encourage students to use their own equipment (provided it is approved by our instructor), so they become familiar with its uses and limitations. We do however supply equipment if you don’t have your own. A pen and paper, or a camera is a great way to record the information you will learn.

Qualification: Statement of Attainment that is nationally recognized.

The statement will consist of the following units of competency

SROABA002A - Apply single pitch abseiling skills on artificial surfaces

SROCLA001A – Demonstrate simple climbing skills on artificial surfaces

SROCLA002A – Apply climbing skills on artificial surfaces

SROCLA003A – Establish belays for climbing on artificial surfaces

SROCLA007A – Demonstrate route setting skills

SROCLA008A – Guide climbing activities on artificial surfaces

SROVTR001A - Perform vertical rescues

Abseiling Leader Qualification
Nationally Accredited Course

The Abseiling Leader qualification course has been designed for people who wish to lead or guide others in abseiling activities. This course is perfect for outdoor education leaders, school teachers, military roping leaders, rescue team members, youth and adventure club leaders, and recreational abseilers and climbers.
As abseiling guides and leaders we know exactly what you need to run safe and fun abseiling adventures, we teach you all the skills and the tricks of the trade.

Our Abseiling Leader qualification contains three main parts – Vertical Rescue Skills, Abseiling Skills, and Leadership Skills.

Leadership Skills include these nationally accredited training units :
• Implement & monitor risk management policies & procedures for working at height.
• Train small groups
• Implement & monitor minimum impact work practices
• Plan & lead an activity involving work at height
• Coordinate emergency response in situations that involve exposure to falls from height.

Vertical Rescue and Abseiling Skills include :
• Equipment – Selection, Use, and Maintenance
• Anchor systems
• Belay systems
• Rigging
• Self rescue
• Abseiling Single and Multi pitch
• Rescue of others
• Vertical Mobility

A Leadership Qualification with endorsements for Abseiling.

You will be trained and assessed for the following units of competency.

SROODR005A - Guide outdoor recreation sessions

SROODR006A - Manage risk in an outdoor activity

SROABN003A - Apply single pitch abseiling skills on natural surfaces

SROABN004A - Establish ropes for single pitch abseiling on natural surfaces

SROABN007A - Guide abseiling on natural surfaces (single pitch)

SROVTR001A - Perform vertical rescues

 

Timeframe:
This course is designed to be trained and assessed in 4 to 5 days.

(This is dependant on factors such as, students prior learning, and the range of endorsements sought)

If you have never abseiled or only done a small amount come on one of our abseiling adventure programs first.

Ropes Course Leader
Nationally Accredited Course

The Ropes Course Leader course has been designed for people who wish to lead or guide others on challenge ropes course activities, with high and low elements. This course is perfect for outdoor education leaders, school teachers, military roping leaders, youth and adventure club leaders, and flying fox operators.

We have operated challenge ropes courses throughout Australia, for thousands of groups ranging from school groups to corporate and military training. We know exactly what is needed to run safe and fun ropes course adventures, we teach you all the skills and the tricks of the trade.

Our Ropes Course Leader course contains four main parts – Ropes Course Skills, Vertical Rescue Skills, Abseiling Skills, and Leadership Skills.

  • Belay systems

  • Rigging

  • Self rescue and rescue of others

  • Abseiling single pitch and vertical mobility

Venue’s

We use one of Australia’s best High and Low Ropes facilities. The Pepper’s Fairmont High Ropes Course boasts a 13 meter climbing tower, abseiling wall, 14 different high challenge elements, 6 low rope sites, and a flying fox. It is perfectly suited for our training programs.

We are also happy to come to your facility and deliver the course there.
